Why support healthier communities

At the heart of Stony Brook is our shared mission to provide fundamental healthcare that is accessible to everyone in our community. However, as costs rise and health disparities in low-income areas grow, emergency departments are becoming strained and more resources are needed than ever before. Despite these challenges, we continue to provide exceptional patient care, education, research, and community outreach that not only saves lives in Suffolk County, but also pushes medicine forward for patients everywhere.

Our food environment has changed so dramatically in our lifetime that it is contributing to poor health. We aim to reconnect people to a whole-food, plant-based style of eating."
